About Omega Games

Last updated October 15, 2026

Omega Games is a set of free games you play in a browser tab. They are written by the Omega Coding Club, a small family coding club, and the site exists because building a game anyone can open at a link is the most satisfying way we have found to learn to program.

Who makes the games

The club is a parent and their kids, writing games together in TypeScript. Each game starts as an idea somebody at the table wants to play, gets built over a few evenings, and then keeps changing as people play it and complain about the parts that are not fun. Several of the games on the site have been rewritten from scratch once already for that reason.

How they are built

Everything here is written by hand in TypeScript and React, and runs on Next.js. The games are drawn on an HTML canvas, and almost all of the art is drawn in code rather than loaded from image files: the sheep in Fleeced!, the chefs in Hell's Kitchen and every building and car in ROC City are shapes assembled by a function. Sound is synthesized in the browser with the Web Audio API. Nothing is bought in, and no game engine is used.

There is no server behind the games. Everything runs in your browser, and saved progress and high scores are stored on your own device, which is why your Fleeced! prison does not follow you to another computer.

What the site will not do

How the site pays for itself

Hosting costs money, so some games offer optional ads: a rewarded ad you choose to watch for a boost in Fleeced!, and a break between games in Deep Sea Descent and Distant Memories. They are never forced on you in the middle of play, and refusing one only costs you the boost. The cookies and ads page explains what the ads do and do not know about you.

Where to start

If you have a minute, play Deep Sea Descent or Snake bites. If you have an afternoon, play ROC City or Fleeced!. Every game has a page describing it on the games list, and what's new tracks what we changed and when.
