What Snake bites is

Snake bites is the game everybody already knows: steer a snake around a board, eat, grow and do not run into yourself. What this version adds is feel. The snake is drawn thick behind the head and tapers to the tail, quick turns are buffered so a fast double tap is not swallowed, and the board handles swipes as well as keys.

It is the best game on the site for handing a laptop to somebody who has never played anything here before. The rules explain themselves in one go, and the ceiling is entirely your own reflexes.

How to play

  1. Press an arrow key, or swipe the board, to start moving.
  2. Eat to grow. Every bite makes the tail longer and the board tighter.
  3. You cannot reverse into yourself, so plan the turn before you need it.
  4. Space pauses, and starts a new game once you have crashed.

Tips

  • Work the edges. Looping the outside leaves the middle open for later.
  • Never finish a turn without knowing where the next one goes.
  • Two quick presses are remembered, so a tight S-turn does land.
  • Slow down your own hands. Most deaths in snake are early turns, not late ones.

Questions

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Swipe the board or use the pad underneath it.
